Workload

The biggest diffrence between high school and college has most definetly got to be the workload. Ive had more work in college already than ive had my entire senior year of high school. Now ill admit that my high school wasnt the best in academics and didnt do a good job preparing me for next level education. Part of not being prepared is on me because I wasnt the student that did all of his work and turned everything in on time. I was the one that procrastinated and put things off until the end. In a way I screwed myself. Im not mad at my teachers because its not their fault for my mistakes but they didnt really try to help me out at all. If they did I would have accepted the help and appreciated it but things didnt work out that way for me. I pretty much had to do everything on my own in school. It wasnt a big problem but it could have turned out better for me. Im glad that im attending this university because I feel welcome here and the environment and people are just right for me. This semester Ive already done about five papers and it is a killer. Its not so much the paper itself but all the research and extra stuff we have to do. Its not really that hard to type a simple paper but some students make it out to be. Some students seem to make verything harder. Whenever I see them and they are complaining it kind of makes me angry because they should be glad to be in college. It is a great opportunity for them to make something of themselves. It is kind of hard to keep up with all of the work but it is a must for the students to turn in every single peice of assigned work that the professor assigns. One missed assignment can cost them a semester and caus them to retake the samw clas that next semester. I would say that I have the most work in either my geography class or my composition class. I do the most reading in geography and the most writing in composition. If I were to choose a single class to take this semester it would probably be weight training. Even though there is no reading or writing, I do enjoy lifting weights so I could do that everyday. I really do like my professors and they can work with me at anytime that Im having trouble. I really appreciate everything I have right now.

Study Hall

As we go each week preparing for a new opponent, we go every tuesday and thursday to study hall preparing for our classes. Some people may think that football players get treated differently. That a false accusation. Football players have it harder than regular students because we have to go to practice while everyone else has free time to do their work. We, the football players have to have time managament on lockdown because ther is a lot of work to be done. If we dont get our work done, there s a chance that we might be inelligible and wont get to play in the upcoming game. Study hall really helps me out for the fact that it gives me a chance to really focus on what Im doing. Who ever it may be that is watching us makes sure that it stays quiet. The silence helps me out even more because with distraction I get off task and dont get the majority of my work done. Some students take study hall as a joke and it kind of upsets me because they get out of hand. Once they do that it disrupts me and I dont do so much. The person watching us punishes the entire study hall group for one person misbehaving. He will either add more time to the session or not let us have our music on. I dont really listen to music sense its a distraction to me but others do. Plus, whoever gets in trouble gets mad at the person watching us. It makes no sense to get mad, your the one causing yourself to get in trouble. While they are mad Im catching up on something I might have missed or just getting ahead. I try to sit some place where I have a little bit of space around me so people wont try to talk to me that often. Sometimes I might still be in the middle of doing something important but then we are released to go home. At that moment I want study hall to go longer because if I continue the same work in my room I will most likely stay behind on it. Study hall is a great thing to go to when you need to get work done and the main part is to keep up my GPA so I can maintain my financial aid and scholarship. If my GPA drops below a certain point them I would be in big trouble. I really want to keep my grades high and make my family and I proud.

College Friends

My college friends compared to my high school friends are way better. In high school, your friends would be with one minute and then the next their gone. They always ditch you for some apparent reason. Most of the time it is not important but I guess thats the way high school works these days. In college yo can be with your friends all of the time except for classes. I dont have any of my friends for any classes. Ive come to the conclusion that it is probably a good thing that none of them are in my classes because I would most likely get distracted all the time. Im almost positive that would affect my grade for that class. So, Im thankful that Im going solo in my classes. It really helps me focus on my work and I am more prone to getting my work done. My friends are always in my room and its hard for me to go to sleep because they are constantly being loud. I dont really mind but it would be nice for once to have a quiet night. Every day something new happens and we all have stories to tell. Most of them are funny but there are rare moments that we have that are serious. We pretty much go every where together. We always go to the paties together to cause trouble. One of my friends here at TLU was also my classmate in high school. He is my rommate here and its so much fun because we just do whatever we want and get away with it. We dont really care what anybody says, the only people that we really listen to are the football coaches. Another one of my friends is from Hondo which was in my high schools district. Its a small world if you go to the same college as your enemy. Overall he is a good dude and super funny. Makes me crack up everyday. Another one of my friends is from Houston. This gut has got some jokes. I remember the first day we actually hung out, he made me laugh so hard. We got lost going to a party and we were dogging on the driver because he had one little assignment. That assignment was to follow the truck in front of us. He lost him and we thought thta he was following him the whole time. Turns out he was following a completely different truck. We were making jokes about him and he was getting really mad at us. We didnt care because apparently we were the only people hacing a good time that night.

Fall Camp

On move in day, I was surprised at how small the room was. In my mind I was thinking that it was going to be difficult. Once I got everything settled in and I looked at it, it actually wasnt that bad. My roommate and I were already liking the college life. Even though we have been here for only a couple of hours. The very next day we had to get up at six in the morning to eat our mandatory breakfast. All of the football players had to do the same thing and everybody's face was filled with anger. I was mad that I had to get up that early. Not only did we have to get up that morning but every other morning for two weeks. It was tough trying to do it but we had to because we could not be late without being punished. The punishment here is terrible and the coaches do not take it easy on you. Im almost positive that if you did the punishment you would puke for a while. Maybe Im over exagerating but it is pretty bad. I almost threw up and all I did was rolls. The thing about rolls are that you get super dizzy and once you get up you dont know which way to walk. I really did almost throw up but I never did. I was scraed that I was at any second. One day after practice we had to do boot camp and there were four drills. On the first drill I had busted my eye open because someone else ran into me with his head. At first I thought that I was fine because my hand had no blood on it when I touched the gash. As soon as I put my hand back on it for the second time. I was thinking to myself that it was the same gash I had gotten senior year while playing basketball. It was a foolish mistake but oh well. Anyway, I had to miss the rest of fall camp because due to the injury, I got a minor concussion. My head was hurting every day for the remainder of camp. I was upset because in my mind I though I could be on varsity but I ended up playing on the OV. I guess the main point would that fall camp was boring for me. Everyone else was getting better while I was getting weaker and out of shape. Once I came back I had a hard time running because I was out of breath and I got winded very easily. Thats just part of football here at TLU.
